Enviro Kids Week 4 Term 3 2014

Kia Ora Tatou!

What a great week for our Enviro Kids!

We made hummus with Joseph's recipe and got to eat it with potato wedges made from our very own potatoes!

Joseph and Mrs Hart and Mrs Hanline brought the ingredients and the equipment. We all helped to make the hummus, following the recipe carefully. Then we got to share it.

Bob had dug up the potatoes in the morning and Mrs Hart had peeled them and cut them and put them in the oven. Mrs Hanline got to bring them from the oven, they were hot!

Alexis and Abdul helped Mrs Hanline find out about growing chickpeas in New Zealand. They discovered that we can grow them here. They need to be planted in early Spring and they do not like growing with garlic. We are going to plant some in September.

We all got a share of the wedges, hummus and crackers.

Amazing! from Vin, Tastes like the best hummus there is! from Alexis, Fabulous! from Harmony

Spectacular! from Julius, Amazing! from Daina, Fantastic and Awesome! from Jayden, Fantastic! from Joseph.

Incredible! from Levi, Tasted delicious! from Abdul

We also learned about seed potatoes. Mrs Hart bought some and we have put them into a cardboard box to sprout. When they are sprouted we will plant them in our garden.

Happy Gardening Everybody!

Kia Ora Whanau!

We were very busy this week picking parsley and spinach and making pesto and feeding our worms!

First we got the ingredients and the equipment.

Abdul, Vin, Alexis and Imran picked some parsley. It was curly and flat leafed parsley. Then we washed it. We got out the earwigs and caterpillars.

Jayden picked some spinach.

We put all the ingredients in the blender and put the lid on. Then we mixed it all up till it was smooth.
Next Mrs Hart put some on a cracker for each of us.
"Nice," said Daina
"Magnifique!" said Jayden
"Delicious!" said Alexis

2 cups parsley
half cup grated cheese
3 cloves garlic
half tsp salt

Enviro Kids Weeks 8&9 Term 2 2014

Kia ora whanau!
Well, you will have noticed that we have had no entries on our blog for the past few weeks. This is due to very bad weather conditions preventing us doing much in the gardens and also our winter season.

We will be doing some more planting next week and harvesting our fabulous crop of parsley.
