Enviro Kids Week 2 Term 3 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

We were very busy this week picking parsley and spinach and making pesto and feeding our worms!

First we got the ingredients and the equipment.

Abdul, Vin, Alexis and Imran picked some parsley. It was curly and flat leafed parsley. Then we washed it. We got out the earwigs and caterpillars.

Jayden picked some spinach.

We put all the ingredients in the blender and put the lid on. Then we mixed it all up till it was smooth.
Next Mrs Hart put some on a cracker for each of us.
"Nice," said Daina
"Magnifique!" said Jayden
"Delicious!" said Alexis

Here is the recipe:
Parsley Pesto
1 cup walnuts
2 cups parsley
half cup grated cheese
3 cloves garlic
half tsp salt
half cup olive oil
2 spinach leaves
juice of 1 orange
Place all ingredients in the blender and mix till smooth. Eat as desired.

Enviro Kids Weeks 8&9 Term 2 2014

Kia ora whanau!
Well, you will have noticed that we have had no entries on our blog for the past few weeks. This is due to very bad weather conditions preventing us doing much in the gardens and also our winter season.

We will be doing some more planting next week and harvesting our fabulous crop of parsley.

Watch this space!

Enviro Kids Week 7 Term 2 2014

Kia Ora Everyone!

Maintaining our edible gardens takes a lot of work.

This week we used some of the worm tea we have collected to fertilize our gardens and help our plants to grow. We had to mix it with about three quarters water or it would be too strong for our plants.

We watered our strawberry plants too.

As good citizens, we also watered the flower gardens by the front entrance to our wonderful school.

Happy gardening everyone!

Enviro Kids week 6 Term 2 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

This week we have picked the silverbeet and we are giving it to Room 12. We all voted for which class would get the silverbeet and Room 12 got the most votes.
Some people helped with the Blog. Thank you Haniel, Ryder, Ethar and me Alexis.

Enviro Kids Week 4 Term 2 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

There was no group meeting this week because Mrs H was sick with a bad cold and had to stay at home and go to the Doctor.

We have continued to feed the worms and recycle our paper products though, just as we usually do.

We will do lots more next week, even though it is a short week!

Happy gardening Everyone!

Enviro Kids Week 3 Term 2 2014

Kia Ora Everyone!

Our fabulous Enviro Kids have once again been very active in sustaining our edible gardens!

They have removed the silverbeet from the front door gardens because they decided that they were not doing very well.

They have replaced them with red and green cabbages.

They have given these gardens a thorough watering and dug over the dirt which had gotten quite hard.

Well done Enviro Kid!
